The idea was to get organized.
How many times have people spent the time online organizing who will come and who won't, then figuring out what kind of team to take, then what builds, etc. etc. That time could have been saved by organizing it correctly in the forum and then actually spend the time online playing.
An event that should start at 8 or 9, then ends up starting much later and ending much later too, sadly. I don't know about you guys, but I have to work the next morning at 8 and it frankly pissed me off that people couldn't be bothered to write at least a few measely words saying if they wanted to go and with what profession - we would then have time to figure out a team.
Sydney talks about having fun, but someone has the work to research, plan and try to organize the event so that others may have the fun they deserve while participating - instead of going with whoever shows up, form a crappy team and spend a few hours just to get owned and insult the monk or the interrupter or someone else and end stating that it was a crappy event.
It really isn't that difficult to plan a good event with 3-4 days in advance - it's just that people don't care.
But I agree with Tak. Might as well scratch that. If people can't be bothered to reply to an event post, then why should anyone be bothered organizing it?

I agree with Arv, it really helps if members help us make it easier to organize the events by using the forum but on Syd's defense he wasn't aware that the event was cancelled until only yesterday when you posted Arv, a heads up might have worked.
But that is probably my fault as I should have made it clear that if enough people don't respond then there is no point in having the event, I was really hoping it would not come to that.
2-4 people can get together anytime and do something together, that happens all the time. A guild event is when at least 8 people get together to do something big, I know a Dungeon is probably not that big a deal, but Kathantrax is one of the more difficult dungeons. But a lot of us want to do Urgoz, we need 12 people for that and very sepecifc professions, if we cannot get the members to organize ahead of time using the forum, how will we ever be able to arrange Urgoz clear out?
I am open for any suggestions, but for now we might as well scrap the idea to get members to respond to the forum. Syd made a valid point, people don't want to commit till the very last moment, but hopefullly one day we will have too many people coming to the event, and the ones that confirmed on the forum gets first pick, that will be 1st class.

... a heads up might have worked. The heads up was on the Status since friday everytime someone logged in to GW - "only people who confirm their presence in the forum may participate" - seems clear enough to me... but then I'm pretty sure that nobody reads that anyway I was really annoyed because I went to the trouble of putting together a hero/hench party and do the dungeon 3 times to try out different setups. Then I spent more than an hour between Longeye Ledge and Doomlore putting together an all human party and do the dungeon once more. In the end I had a general idea of how things work in there and if people posted their professions I could have tried those out once more and come up with 2 or 3 different team setups so that everyone could get the satisfaction of completing it. I hope you understand how frustrating it was for me to realize that in fact I had just wasted the majority of Saturday doing all that and no one replied. Ok then, let's keep trying and doing events with whoever shows up and hope that one day we can actually organize something big like Urgoz. But then keep in mind that events won't be half the fun when they aren't planned.

Arv, I didn't realized how much effort you put into it and I'm sorry for sounding insencere. It is a catch 22 situation, if the event was not canceled maybe enough people would have been online to make the event work, but perhaps not.
Yes we did say that only people that confirmed can participate but 2 people did confirm and did show up and it is my fault that we didn't specify that we need a minimum amount of people for the event.
Arv, I feel for you. I know how it feels, I also spend a lot of time studying UW and I was lucky to have a good team to go as far as we did with the exception of the much needed Obsidian tank.
I guess that is why no one bother anymore to prepare well for an event, because it doesn't really feel appreciated. I really hope that we can do that Dungeon soon, because I need it and if we can put together a full CCCP team for it, then all your effort would have been well worth it.

From my previous experience organizing PvP and PvE events, I can certainly relate to your pain. It's a quite a significant bit of work to prepare for an event and come up with a sensible play strategy...only to just having to improvise something with whoever shows and whatever chars they want to take. Hence the 1-2 hour preparation lag usually taken before anything starts and all the moans and whines for "taking too long" and "I am here to play, not wait" BS. The most common result is the team FAILING soon after starting and a lot of frustrated people, especially the organizer. The easiest solution is, of course, to show up in the forum and prepare beforehand. The sad truth is that most people are plain lazy and can't be bothered unless they are forced (or baited with porn/candy) to visit this place regularly.
I am still hopeful that CCCP will take on more interesting challenges like Urgoz or The Deep. I did try it on and off for 2 years but could never make it happen. Given the level of preparation required (a lot), the number of people needed (12, of specific classes) and the fact that the only 4-5 people that do show up don't have the chars, skills or the faintest clue of what the Urgoz consists of (or that it takes 2-3h to complete), it wasn't possible. I hope that will change. A lot of guys are showing up in the forum so MAYBE things will change.
For the above reasons, I agree with Arv that signing up in the forum should be mandatory for participating in elite area events (UW/FoW/DoA/Urgoz/Deep).
my 2 pence
